IN PERSON: Art Depicting People
MARCH 13 - APRIL 20, 2025
Most of the famous pictures we know are images of human beings. The portrait and the human figure - these are among the most engaging subjects throughout the history art. And that is where this exhibition lends its focus: on the reality of the human being.
There is great diversity among human beings, and likewise, you will see diversity all throughout this exhibit: diversity in terms of media, in terms of approach, or artistic style. Among the works on display, you will find intimate depictions of an artists’ family and friends, side by side with a painting of a public figure or well-known author. Some of our artists abstract the human figure, while others depict the human being with a playful, childlike approach. There are detailed studies that focus on the psychology of their subject, and others which explore the emotional reality of the artist or sitter. We have politically charged works as well as pictures that focus on storytelling. Whatever the media or style, these artworks are drawn together by their humanity and by the artists’ sincere interest and exploration of the human experience.
Exhibiting artists include Abby Curran, Bernice Cooke, David Barrett, Eileen Collins, Joseph Heffernan, Judy Fischer, Laurie McWilliams, Maria O’Donoghue, Meri Grubić, Roisin O’Donnell, Sammy Kane, Ursula Walsh, Gill Good, Han M, John MacMonagle, and Joanna Kaminska.
